This is an outstanding guitar by Jon Nixon, a very talented Virginia-based builder with 50 years of building experience.
This heirloom quality guitar is of the sort that gets passed down. Hand-crafted by Mr. Nixon who is a local luthier and is represented solely by The Fret Shop.
He consistently makes beautiful looking, sounding and playing guitars that exhibit great clarity and responsiveness. I have sold dozens of this builder's guitars and all of them have been pretty derned remarkable.
As with all locally-made instruments the finish has some very slight anomalies, character marks and handling marks. They are ALL very subtle. The finish is very good but it is not museum-piece perfect as say a Bourgeois would be. That said you have to look VERY closely to notice and I bring this up for full disclosure (and I'm probably making this a much bigger deal than is warranted......).
And BTW, the corresponding Bourgeois would be $7000+.........
