Nixon Grand Auditorium 14 Fret Flame Old Growth Koa Hand Made in Virginia
This is another outstanding 14 fret guitar by the talented Jon Nixon. Back and sides are 5A old-growth koa, the top is 20 year old German spruce, the neck is Honduran mahogany with an ebony fretboard and there is ivoroid binding and trim throughout. Bridge is made from Brazilian rosewood. Gotoh 510 tuners with ebony buttons.
In addition to being strikingly beautiful, it has amazingly defined tone with great definition. These Nixon GA's respond remarkably well to a flatpick and/or fingerpicking, which is not always the case.
With an extremely high quality level it's tone compares favorably when we stack it up to other boutique makers in the shop. Constructed in an utterly crisp and confident manner. It is equivalent to other boutique builder's models costing thousands of dollars more. Top notch appointments. Finish is a durable catalyzed shellac to allow the body to speak and bring out the gorgeous luster in the Koa. This guitar was built with slight 'fall-off' of the fingerboard over the body so the common issue of 'ski-jump' fretboard end is avoided entirely which maintains high note clarity and avoids common upper fret buzz entirely.
Slightly shop worn
This is an amazing guitar of the sort that grows into a part of the family and gets passed down. Crafted by an extremely talented local luthier who is represented solely by The Fret Shop. A fabulous sounding and playing guitar by this unusually gifted luthier. I have sold nearly a dozen of this builder's guitars and all of them have been outstanding.
